NOIDA: After going slow for a year, the development projects in Noida and Greater Noida are all set to be revived, with Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav inaugurating six projects worth Rs 3,300 crore on April 2 in Lucknow.

The CEO of the Noida, Greater Noida and Yamuna Expressway authorities, Rama Raman, said, “Earlier the chief minister had planned to visit the city on Republic Day but could not come due to other commitments.”
Sources in the state government said two out of the six projects would be for women empowerment. Noida Authority has decided to build a women’s shelter in Sector 34, and a girl’s higher secondary college in Hoshiyarpur village in Sector 51.

Following the change in the regime last year, Noida and Greater Noida residents were hoping to witness remarkable development in the areas. But for the past one year, not much has happened, leading to the rumours that being the home district of BSP chief Mayawati, Gautam Budh Nagar is facing government apathy. Other projects are two multilevel parking facilities, one each at Sector 18 and Botanical Garden; a public grievance centre in Sector 36, and a half flyover (with one carriageway) to be built opposite Sector 15A.

“All formalities of these projects are over and work will start soon,” said a senior official of Noida Authority. Sources say that with the Lok Sabha elections due in 2014, the government wants to convey the message that it is pro-development, and Noida stays on the priority list of this government, too.
